In vitro activity on Cryptosporidium parvum oocyst of different drugs with recognized anticryptosporidial efficacy

چکیده
Cryptosporidium parvum is a protozoan parasite highly infectious to man and animals. C.parvum oocysts excreted with faeces of infected animals can be a source of infection for man having great influence on public health in immunodeficient but also immunocompetent host. The disease is characterized by watery diarrhoea, dehydration and weight loss. C. parvum has been reported as a common serious primary cause of outbreaks of diarrhoea in ruminant neonates, mainly calves, lambs, and goat kids, causing considerable direct and indirect economic losses [9, 11, 35].

Effects of two anticoccidial drugs, Monensin, Toltrazuril and the mixture of them on Cryptosporidium parvum in vitro
Introduction and objective: Cryptosporidium parvum is a protozoan parasite that is a common cause of diarrhea in both animals and humans worldwide. There is no effective specific chemotherapeutic treatment. The aim of this study was to survey and compare the anticryptosporidial effect of two anticoccidial drugs, Monensin, Toltrazuril and synergic effect on oocysts of C. parvum in vitro. Materia...
متن کاملBobel-24 activity against Cryptosporidium parvum in cell culture and in a SCID mouse model.
The anticryptosporidial activity of Bobel-24 (2,4,6-triiodophenol) was studied for the first time, resulting in a reduction of the in vitro growth of Cryptosporidium of up to 99.6%. In a SCID mouse model of chronic cryptosporidiosis, significant differences (P < 0.05) in oocyst shedding were observed in animals treated with 125 mg/kg/day. These results merit further investigation of Bobel-24 as...
متن کاملLong-lasting anticryptosporidial activity of nitazoxanide in an immunosuppressed rat model.
Cryptosporidium parvum, Tyzzer, 1912 is identified as a common cause of diarrhoea in immunocompetent individuals. In immunocompromised, especially HIV-infected subjects, cryptosporidiosis causes severe chronic diarrhoea. In this study, nitazoxanide (NTZ) was compared for curative activity with sinefungin (SNF) and paromomycin (PRM) in immunosuppressed rats, a screening model for anticryptospori...
متن کاملAmelioration of Cryptosporidium parvum infection in vitro and in vivo by targeting parasite fatty acyl-coenzyme A synthetases.
BACKGROUND Cryptosporidium is emerging as 1 of the 4 leading diarrheal pathogens in children in developing countries. Its infections in patients with AIDS can be fatal, whereas fully effective treatments are unavailable. The major goal of this study is to explore parasite fatty acyl-coenzyme A synthetase (ACS) as a novel drug target. METHODS A colorimetric assay was developed to evaluate bioc...
متن کاملProduction of Specific Egg Yolk Antibody (IgY) against Cryptosporidium parvum Oocysts
ABSTRACT Background and Objectives: Cryptosporidium parvum is a coccidian protozoan that causes diarrhea in immunocompromised humans and newborn animals. The severity of the disease depends on the immunological status of the affected. Cryptosporiosis can have lethal effects on immunocompromised individuals such as AIDS patients. About 10% of...
